Newell Convers Wyeth
Wyeth (1882-1945) was one of the United States' foremost illustrators and founder of a dynasty of artists that includes his children Andrew, Carolyn, and Henriette and his grandson Nathaniel Jarvis Wyeth (1802-56), a fur trader and explorer of Oregon. He studied with the famous illustrator Howard Pyle and settled in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, where he produced many outstanding pictures for books and magazines. Wyeth is especially known for his vigorous illustrations of the adventure tales Kidnapped, Treasure Island, and Robinson Crusoe and for the depiction of frontier life in art for such books as The Last of the Mohicans and The Deerslayer.
