Hi, we're the HIT Squad. That's HIV Intervention for Teens. We're a project of the AIDS Network that serves as a voice for teenagers to talk openly and discuss questions about HIV infection, sex and AIDS. HIT Squad members are volunteers from Madison area high schools with creative minds and lots of energy who present relevant factual information to groups of teens. Our presentations are based on discussions and lively, hands-on activities. It is our goal to provide teenagers with the informational tools necessary to make informed choices about behaviors that put us at risk of HIV infection.
In addition, HIT Squad members plan and coordinate special AIDS Awareness events in their schools and communities, submit articles on HIV/AIDS to school and local newspapers, participate in fundraisers such as AIDS Walk Wisconsin, and network with other youth serving agencies.
We are willing to present to any interested youth group, youth conference, classroom, and even adult groups that work with teens. In the past, the HIT Squad has spoken to numerous high school classes,Briarpatch Peer Helpers, the Wisconsin Prevention Conference, local TV stations, parents of high school students and the State Assembly Committee on Education.
All HIT Squad volunteers have completed an intensive training in AIDS facts and related issues, and meet regularly to become informed about the latest developments and how to answer questions about difficult issues surrounding AIDS.
