Loose Moose National Enduro - Marquette, MI

Well once again, the Loose Moose National Enduro got the best
of me. I don't know what it is with this race, but I never seem to have good
luck in the UP. But I am getting ahead of myself....
I was looking forward to this race as I would be taking 2 hare
scrambles guys along for their first stab at an enduro. Joining me on this trip
was Vesrah rider Joe Vandecor and John Bechner. While John rode the Pearson
Enduro earlier in the year, this was a National and bound to be tougher.
The trip up to Marquette proved to be an adventure in itself
as the recent flooding had us taking a detour within 10 miles of the house.
During this detour, we also found out what a friend of nature John is as he
saved a wayward turtle from certain death (although the large snapper did not
feel it needed rescuing!!). I wish Joe would have had his helmet camera running
as we were both laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes.
After operation turtle drop, the rest of the trip was pretty
uneventful. Upon arriving, we set up camp and registered for the race. After a
great dinner, it was off to bed for a good night's sleep.
Now on to the race....well it was over pretty much right after
it began. I was on a row with 2 other Vet A riders and 2 Senior A riders. The
pace was high and I got stuck in a small mud hole. While trying to catch back up
