 | 3-1-08 Update: Last weekend was the first "race" of
the year. Teamed up with Joe "Eggshell" Barr for a 2 hour
endurance ice race to support the Steel Toe Fund for injured riders. The day
was perfect with temps in the 30's and plenty of sun. Thanks to Da Pope and
Speedy Pete, I had ice tires on the KTM. Since the track was pretty rough,
it was decided to split the time on the bike into 30 min sections. This
would also allow both of us seat time incase something went wrong. I was up
first and the organizers decided to have the riders run to their bikes and
start them to get everyone spread out. Well I had a good start and could
have lead, but that isn't where I wanted to be with plenty of fast ice
riders (this was for fun after all!). We did well running in the top 5 of
our class until in the final 30 min when the rear axle nut decided it didn't
want to stick around causing the rear fender to come off. I limped the bike
back to the pits and took 2 more laps to find a axle nut and fix the fender.
Joe rode the last 15 mins trying to make up lost time. Overall, we lost
about 3 laps, dropping us from a top 5 in our class to 8th. Team
"Cheese Don't Freeze" had a great time for a good cause.

 | 1-23-08 Update: Well last weekend was the 1st ride of 2008.
What do we do when the temp outside is -4 (YES...that is 4 degrees below 0
for a high!) and the wind chill is hovering around -24 degrees? Why we load
up the bikes with studded ice racing tires and head to the frozen lake!
There was suppose to be a 3 hour endurance ice race last Sunday, but it was
cancelled because it was too warm! OK...it was cancelled 2 weeks ago
when the temps were in the 50's, but that wouldn't make for a good story now
would it!
BIG thanks to Brian (Da Pope) Mullane and Andrew (Halo Boy) Jensen for
supplying the rides. Hopefully, Brian will send me some photos of the outing
and I will add them soon.
